Summary:
The discovery coach primary responsibilities include supporting people through a time-limited, comprehensive, person-centered and community-based employment planning service to assist the person to identify their abilities, interests, and ideal conditions for employment.
In addition, the discovery coach will create competitive integrated employment opportunities for people supported through job development, career building efforts and community networking.
This role will also include collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure people supported have the resources needed to develop an employment plan and path to competitive integrated employment as well as building community capacity for employment.
Position
Responsibilities:
Assist people in group settings and/or one to one who have a documented interest in employment or employment exploration through 3 distinct milestone activities to determine their ideal conditions for employment.
Engage in visits/observations with the person and their team in the person?s home or in an alternate mutually agreed upon location (aside from a provider site).
Document discussions of the person?s interests and preferred activities or hobbies, including how they spend their time.
Complete in-person surveys of the community near and around the person?s home pertaining to potential employment opportunities and careers.
Coordinate and facilitate 3 unpaid community Work Based Learning Experiences/Job Trials with area employers.
Compile information collected, including any additional activities that have occurred based on emerging themes.
Complete final summaries outlining who the person is; along with a picture and/or written resume.
Coordinate and facilitate team meetings and/or collaboration with other pertinent team members to compile all information into a final employment plan which includes recommended next steps and action items.
Utilize information compiled in the employment plan to support people in job developing efforts through completing job applications, engaging in the interview process, coordinating working interviews and networking with local employers.
Support people with identifying and gaining access to appropriate transportation resources to effectively get to and from work.
Coordinate and facilitate job start meeting with all important team members as people become competitively employed, to ensure all pertinent information is conveyed to support team.
Ensure proper transition of responsibilities to the assigned job coach for quality ongoing and follow along services.
DSP 1 Advancement ? Assist with training of new team members to include peer training for other areas of the program as well as within the discovery/job development sector, engaging in meetings with new team members and providing opportunities for community shadowing sessions.
DSP 2 Advancement ? All of the above, as well as assist with the coordination and facilitation of employer roundtable meetings.
DSP 3 Advancement ? All of the above, as well as assist the Discovery Coach Supervisor with the following as assigned:
Engage in the interview process to recruit quality team members for the program.
Facilitate team meetings within the discovery program.
Sign off on team member?s paperwork who are in the process of obtaining their CESP certification.
Collaborate with employment services peers to support and guide the community employment goals of people supported.
Obtain and maintain the Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP) certification through the Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE).
Learn and become proficient in the skills of varied professions to support participants in identifying viable career paths.
Be flexible, reliable, and consistent in supporting the employment services team to assist people in discovering their ideal conditions for employment.
Gather and exchange industry-based information to ensure a dynamic pool of skills and abilities to support people with their path to Competitive Integrated Employment.
Positively mentoring and guiding new employment services participants.
Accurately track and document the attendance of people supported.
Track and document caseload requirements to include updating and transitioning supported people to other services.
Track and manage employer stakeholder information and communicate regularly to establish discovery opportunities and job opportunities for participants.
Track and document financial expenditures to include mileage and vehicle usage to ensure fiscal responsibility.
Ensure effective and efficient use of time and opportunities to maximize discovery and job development supports.
Complete and submit required documentation accurately and on time.
Other duties as assigned.
Education, Training and
Experience:
High School diploma is required; Associates degree in human services or related field preferred One to Three (1-3) years of experience working with people with differing abilities preferred CESP Certified within one (1) year in role Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
) and other database systems Physical Demands and Work Environment:

An employee in this position must be able to physically intervene (when appropriate and in an approved manner) to protect people from causing harm to themselves or others and to safely evacuate the community residence/van/facility during an emergency.
These duties may entail lifting/supporting/transferring up to 50-70 pounds on one or more occasions during the work shift.
The lifting duties could be contingent on the job in which a person is learning.
Employees will regularly be required to stand; walk; sit; use hands (or hands and arms) to carry, finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; crouch and kneel.
Employees will also be regularly required to hear (with or without hearing devices), see (with or without corrective lenses) and speak.
Other Requirements:
Access to reliable transportation during the entire shift.
Active valid driver?s license and driving record that has no more than two (2) points.
Maintenance of all required trainings under DDA guidelines and The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region policies and procedures.
Flexibility of scheduling to meet agency and program needs.
